Vom Boden has partnered with Rieslingfeier to design and publish a new map of the Mosel based on the famous 19th-century German tax maps.
The original art was drawn by Stephen Bitterolf and this new map combines, with reckless abandon, two unique administrative districts: Trier and Koblenz. While this is a radical departure from the two distinct Mosel maps published in the 19th century (Trier published in 1868 and Koblenz in 1897), the upside is that one can digest the entire run of the Mosel near its crossing into Germany (the Obermosel), through Trier, and all the way to Koblenz where the Mosel offers itself to the Rhein in sweet abandon. You can wittness all of this and you do not need the ten-feet of horizontal wall space you need to hang the two 19th century maps side-by-side.
Additionally, at no extra charge, this updated map lists many of the most important villages of the Mosel and provides a provocative, non-sanctioned, five-section schematic of the Mosel, breaking down this stretch of the river into five sections: the Obermosel, Mystery Mosel, Middle Mosel, Magic Mosel, and Terrassen-Mosel. The Saar and Ruwer are also clearly labeled as distinct appellations from the Mosel, which of course they are.
To our knowledge this is one of the first original Mosel map designs in many decades.
All maps are printed on 100lb archival cover stock. There are two formats available, the larger map measuring 20 x 32 inches and a smaller map measuring 18 x 24 inches. Please tell your favorite collector, restaurant, and retailer that they are no longer condemned to hang only maps of Burgundy on their walls. You’re welcome!
