Rosé has interestingly become some sort of strange, commercial non-entity.
These days, rosé offers come and we all look the other way. Welcome to the flip-side of the rosé-mania that consumed us over the past decade?
That sad, regardless of what “the industry” might think, rosé continues along and there are a few million people – myself included – who really appreciate the brightness, the floral, crunchy, red-berry fruit that a balanced rosé can deliver. To say nothing, occasionally, of some serious beauty.
Anyway, fad or non-entity, for our part nothing changes, again. We never invented nonsense rosés to take advantage of the market. When we could have sold 2x to 3x of what our growers could give us, we never asked for more.
Perhaps a bit uniquely, as we enter this post-rosé period it’s important to note that we will truly sell out of many of these wines before they arrive.
So, if you *definitely* want some, let us know?
Our larger message is this: COOL-CLIMATE ROSÉ is where it’s at – low alcohol, high (natural) acidity… but you know this by now.
Hey industry buyers: Deadline is this Friday, February 28th! The early bird catches the worm – or in this case the Beurer mags. Email your rep. or orders@vomboden.com for pricing.

2023 Lukas Hammelmann Blanc de Noir “Caesslin”
“Blanc de Noir,” or Pinot Noir vinified as a white wine, is pretty common in Germany; it is their “Chardonnay” – a white wine with more texture and a lower acid – though of course Hammelmann shapes a Blanc de Noir of extreme lightness and more zing – this has around 7.2 acid and is only 11% alcohol. The wine did go through malolactic and was bottled unfiltered with only 10mg sulfur. The wine shows pretty soil tones along with fragrant red fruits, strawberries along with citrus to lift the edges. Ultra-easy-drinking.

2023 Glow Glow “Pink Fizzy” Rosé
Another “Rotling,” or blend of red and white co-fermented grapes, this time though it’s sparkling and a blend of Dornfelder and Müller-Thurgau. Darker than pink, this has a seriousness and sincerity with a firm tannic structure and vividness of fruit. A Pét-Nat with effervescent energy, this has a harmoniousness that fits in perfectly with the other wines of the estate.

NV Bazin Champagne Rosé “la Pimpante”
La Pimpante or “The Dapper” is a rosé made of 10% Pinot Noir, which is sourced from the neighboring village to the north, Verzenay. The remainder is composed similarly to the L’unanime, roughly 70% single-vintage base wine and the rest from various solera reserves, with a heavier percentage aged in oak barrels. Light salmon-colored and plush, just-crushed berry fruits. Finely vinous and also with a light mousse – a lavish, coating, saturating and structured rosé. Pair with steaks!
ARRIVES MID-MARCH!
2024 Müller-Ruprecht Blanc de Noir Rosé
This is an estate Keller introduced us to in 2020 and we took a small flyer on the rosé based solely on the extreme cut of the basic Riesling and, well, we were blown away. This is from the limestone Pfalz, where Pinot Noir does quite well. We’ve secured about the same amount as last year – same pricing as last year and great funky label so wunderbar.
ARRIVES MARCH/APRIL!
2024 Migot Rosé “Vin Gris”
The Mosel River begins in Alsace but spends most of its time running north through the Lorraine, the ignored neighbor of Alsace. This is the homeland of rosé, here called “Vin Gris.” For those looking for wines of finesse and delicacy, this is a thrilling region and there is no one better than the young Camille Migot: all hand-harvested, certified organic, all wild-yeast fermentations, NO chaptalization. SERIOUS. The Vin Gris is the calling card of the region, layered rosé that carries the brisk energy of the north.
ARRIVES APRIL/MAY!
2024 Seehof Pinot Noir Rosé
This is one of the most popular rosés we offer BECAUSE IT IS AWESOME. In this region, limestone reigns supreme, not slate. Verily, Pinot Noir is very much at home and Florian’s rosé highlights the transparent, crystal-clear freshness of great Pinot rosé, at an absurdly low price because it’s, well, German, and NOT from Provence.
ARRIVES APRIL/MAY!
2024 Stein Rosé
2024 Stein Rosecco (sparkling rosé)
Our favorite rebel/activist in the Mosel, Ulli Stein is one of the world’s most soulful growers. This is one of the few rosés from the Mosel and has become a cult favorite. Shimmering, dry with rigorous acidity. I remember when I had to open 11 bottles of this as samples to sell a case. Things have changed. This year we have ok quantities of both the still and the bubbly Rosecco. The Rosecco pricing has gone up – the normal rosé is the same. Ulli says sorry but it has to be so. No magnums sorry. Ulli doesn’t understand your obsession for rosé magnums.
ARRIVES APRIL/MAY!
2024 Hild “Rosémarie Rosé
The easiest grape to ripen and this is only the fourth rosé the Hilds have been able to make in years. This is salty and brisk and fresh. And the label; when I saw the photograph of proprietor Matz’s older sister Rosemarie as a 5-year-old on the label it just melted my heart. In a world of painfully hip wine labels, I am so down for a return to some basic human sentimentality.
ARRIVES APRIL/MAY!
2024 Shelter Pinot Noir Rosé
Curiously, this is always one of the wider, deeper rosés – it is, after all, from Baden – while also one of the brightest and tartest. This is very crispy, really red-fruited and going toward that wild strawberry direction which is beautiful.
