Mosel Fine Wines | The 2023 Thörnicher, as it is referred to on the consumer label, is an off-dry wine (with 9 g/l of residual sugar) made from fruit harvested in the steep parts of the Enggass and Ritsch. It offers a slightly backward nose made of greengage, mirabelle, cardamom, earthy spices, a hint of mint, ginger, and smoke. The wine is still a bit rough on the edges on the palate, where tart, smooth, and racy elements still need to integrate. The finish is nicely juicy and firmly tart at this stage. This dry-tasting wine will need a bit of time to digest its current sweet-sour structure but should then offer much pleasure in a light-footed and engaging style. | No. 72, Sep. 2024 |
