SteinRiesling “Ohne” Erna Sekt Reserve vB-X 2015 (750ml)

The top Ohne sparkling wines are named after Stein’s mother Erna. I think this wine is profound. I thought it was so profound, in fact, I bought everything left and we used two cases to pour at the vom Boden 10th anniversary party at Haus Waldfrieden – to celebrate this fact Stein printed the label with a small “vB-X” in the lower right-hand corner. Makes me cry a little when I look at it. As with the other “Ohnes,” this is sourced from the old-vine, ungrafted parcel in the Klosterkammer. The wine was aged in two barriques for two years then left en tirage in bottle for an additional five years before being disgorged in April of 2023, exactly one year ago. This smells like soil and rocks; it is herbal and feels of rainwater with honey, floral like a garden after a rainstorm. This certainly has a “Champagne” element to it, but it is much much more.
