This is made from a younger-vine parcel of Chardonnay planted in 2014. It should be noted that these will be the final single-varietal crémants that Jonas will make, for philosophical reasons I don’t 100% understand. Going forward Dostert plans on making only one sparkling wine per year and it will include all of his grapes. So there you go. Only a few cases for the U.S. Sad emoji here. Same bottling and disgorgement as the Elbling: bottled in the spring of 2019 and disgorged January 2024.

Mosel Fine Wines | The N.V. Chardonnay Crémant Brut Nature was made from grapes harvested in 2018 on young vines (planted in 2014) and was fermented and aged in 228-liter used oak barrels until April 2019 before being bottled, aged on its lees, and then disgorged without dosage in January 2024 (the disgorgement date is written on the label) with little SO2 added (20 mg/l). Slightly pale yellow in color, it immediately displays an aromatically rich nose of yellow fruits, almond, anise, nutmeg, smoke, a hint of cinnamon, tobacco, and acacia. It coats the palate with supple and refined spices and leaves a fresh and straightforward impression with quite some intensity. The finish has a fine tartness and a hint of candied lemon and orange blossom. This is an impressive Chardonnay Sekt! | No. 71 June 2023 |
