We’re not selling anything today; we’re just asking for your help.
As many of you know, Germany’s Ahr valley – an amazing cultural treasure with a long history of viticulture – was ravaged by what meteorologists are calling a “mega-flood” on July 19th. Entire homes were washed away, villages completely destroyed -– almost 200 people in western Europe died including well over 100 people from the small Ahr valley alone.
The stories we hear from friends and growers in Germany are devastating.
The people of the Ahr valley need support, and through a winegrower’s association in Germany – the VDP – it is easy to help.
Use your PayPal account and send money to this email – deradlerhilft@vdp.de – and write in the subject line: “Solidarität Ahr Weinbau” or “Solidarity for the growers of the Ahr.”
As a small incentive: for every $100 you donate, we will enter you in a raffle for one of only six 3.0Ls of Julian Haart’s first-ever vintage of Pinot Noir from the Ohligsberg vineyard. Julian is one of the most exciting young growers in the Mosel and already, only ten years into his career, his wines are highly sought-after. This first vintage of Pinot Noir from young-vine plantings in a cherry parcel of the Ohligsberg is something of an incredibly intense rosé. There are only six of these 3.0Ls in existence (outside of Julian’s personal cellar) and they will never be sold through normal retail channels. For the serious German wine fan, this is a true rarity.
After you donate – just send the PayPal receipt to info@vomboden.com. If you donate $100, you will be entered in the raffle one time; if you donate $500, you will be entered five times. Please donate as much as you can.
The raffle will take place on September 15th, so donations must be made before noon that day to be counted. We will announce the winner through our Instagram account @vomboden.
Wine is more than a beverage, it is a cultural expression of a place, and of a community. Let’s support the community.
Please help spread the word and thank you so much for your support.
